After a busy month touring and having a minor leg accident in Tokyo, Luke has used his lack of mobility in the studio, smoking cigars and eating cake. Oh, and making music.
Currently elbow deep in Mother Rose production and 5 songs in. Building kick drums, recording banjos and kids toy instruments, expect electronic rock and roll, and nothing less.
Luke has also finished remixing a single for one of his peers, Woody McBride.
Woody owned the Organico label back in the 90′s that was responsible for releasing the seminal Sound Patrol album by Derrick Carter.
To add to his list of work, Luke is also continuing his These New Things project with Cellist Martin Radford. Having now enlisted the vocal talents of Richard Walters to the band, expect some Classical electronic space music, or something.
And last but not least. Classic. 6 weeks and counting.
Luke will be releasing the first single from his new solo album with remixes by Chez Damier and Mark E on vinyl with exclusive versions, and digital.

The big news is that Classic is back this month. Re-issued
remastered back catalogue, plus new material from both Derrick and
Luke. Luke will be releasing the first single from his new album,
Timelines. The song is titled Interceptor, features Natalie Broomes
on vocals, and will be remixed by Chez Damier, Chris Duckenfield
and Mark E. In other news, Luke has been continuing production work
on new band, Mother Rose. 4 songs in and it is really taking shape.
Luke continues to tour this month, with Japan, Nottingham, Italy
and Israel all coming soon.

December News

The wind down from an interesting year, Luke is preparing to head into a hectic touring couple of months. Currently working on a few major studio projects and preparing some new releases for the launch of the Little Creatures label in the new year. The first single, Mellow Down, co produced by Andy Neal, former member of Howling Wilf. the single will be a vinyl only release featuring a remix from the legendary Danielle Baldelli.
On top of this, Luke has made a conscious effort to avoid remixes and spend more time on original material. His mind was changed when he was contacted by the legendary Billie Ray Martin, who asked for him to remix her new single. Luke ended up saying yes to not one but 2 different singles.
The weekend before xmas will see Luke’s return to his residency at Moxa in Italy for the annual Xmas party, then New Years Eve, he has been asked by Sven Vath to join him at Cocoon, for monster shenanigans.
January sees the announcement of some big news to kick off the new year.

Luke has been busy in the studio writing and producing.
Mainly finishing off The Digital Kid album which is all set for release on Classic in the new year, more news then. The Difference Engine Redux is the focus of the moment, and is out now both digitally and physically. Luke continues his residency in Italy at Moxa, and also does a series of gigs in Berlin and London with close friends Derrick Carter and Doc Martin.
Also studio happenings include working with friend Andy Neal and singer Ronnie King, on a single called Mellow Down. It’s a mid tempo affair that is partially live, partially electronic, and will be due for release on Little Creatures in the new year.

September was a ridiculously busy month back on the road. I was fortunate enough to go to San Francisco and play a private party in Mr S Leather’s Fetish Factory. The party was hosted by UK legend Linden C, and was a pre cursor to the opening of his new club, The Beat Box. Opening next year. Straight off the back of this I travelled to Johannesburg for the South African launch of the iPhone 4. Then straight back for the opening of my 5th of residency at the now legendary Moxa in Mantova, Italy. It was a really magical night actually.
This month sees the release of my new guise, Lukatron. The first single will be out on Quintessentials later this month and will be part of a primitive series. I wanted to return to the basic way of making dance music. Raw grooves using samples and primitive analogue methods.
This month will also see the promo of the re- release of my album on Rekids. The Difference Engine Redux features all the album tracks as individual records, and includes new versions of those that were featured. The album was only ever released as a continuous mix, so this will we be one for the DJ’s too.
I will be returning to Moxa this month with Derrick Carter and will also be back at Back 2 Basics for the first time in an age. Can’t wait!

This month will see Luke well and truly back on the road after a couple of months with his head down in the studio. Beginning this week end Luke will be playing for 7 hours along side old friend and Classic artist, Brett Johnson, at Weekend Club in Berlin. Luke’s unofficial Berlin residency.
Then Luke is off to do an exclusive party in San Francisco and then end of month it;’s the big one. Luke starts his fifth year at Italy’s now legendary Moxa Club in Mantova. The club recently won Italy’s awesome club of the year award and the guests this month are phenomenal. Grandmaster Flash and Africa Bambatta to name but 2.
Luke has also been busy in the studio working on a hush album collaboration to be released on a seminal house imprint. More info on this next month. Collaborators include Bearweasel, Pezzner and Brett Johnson.
Outside of this, Luke has been writing with Cellist Martin Radford on some more cinematic pieces, and finally something totally new for Luke.
Working with Howlin’ Wilf guitarist Andy Neal, Luke has been producing for the legendary Ronnie King. The single, Mellow Down Easy, is a cover of an old Little Walter record, that the two have turned into, what can only be described as Grace Jones meets Tom Waits. Watch this space.

This new modern pop electronica era is beginning to excite me. Inspired by house, techno and various other electronic genres, it takes modern technology and incorporates that into something quite futuristic. It is to modern music what Herbert was to house music 15 plus years ago. Bands like Caribou, Flying Lotus, Fuck Buttons, Logo and artists like Matthew Dear, and for me, this band in particular:

The drowning fate of the music industry is beginning to sadden me deeply.
It seems that the point at which it couldn’t get any worse, it kind of did.
This time though, it wasn’t down to the new “I don’t pay” ethic. This time it was the economy. When we had started to come to terms with the fact that, as artists, we would have to make a living from touring and promoting, suddenly the clubs started closing.
It is at this point you begin to realize that if we do not return to educating people in the value of music, then our world is kind of doomed.
When Prince said the internet was over, he kind of had a point. If we feed the internet with music either for free or for sale, then it’s inevitable that it will become viral and free. If we turn to using the old school concept of distributing physical product as a starting point, then may be there is a way out of this. I am not just talking about music, I am talking about drawing people in and using your fan base to build a community that you can educate and help them understand that this isn’t about being famous and making millions, it’s about feeding a dying art so that it exists for the next generation. There are some great new portals that encourage this new business model. Topspin is one, band camp another. That doesn’t mean you can use them and expect people to pay for your music straight off the bat, but you can incorporate them and include the idea of merchandise, DIY CD’s, art, a badge, a postcard, a 7 inch, and at the same time, still give things away.
The days of making a piece of music, throwing it up on a download site and expecting to tour the world on it, are few and far between.
People are getting savvy to dance musics great con artists else they are being conned by them. There are a mass of people out there that care about the music and not about how high you hold your hands in the air whilst playing somebody else’s songs. The problem is, they have either lost interest or been lured into a false sense of security. Or they just aren’t aware of the industries demise.
The underground, the place where most great movements begin, is in real danger of being diminished to the point of being a part time hobby, and I know that as an artist I have chosen this as my life long profession.
I know I would be sad if my job became my hobby.
